British Red Cross Humanitarian Awards- Saturday 13th August

So this Saturday I went down to the UK head office in London to be part of the judging panel for the annual Humanitarian awards. An award to celebrate young people and volunteers in the Red Cross.

My day started at nine when i got on the train and i reached the head office at 11.

We started the day with a briefing of what we’d be doing. We then set to work looking through all the applications, all 500 of them and had the tedious task of widdling them down to 20. Four categories and five nominees in each one. We then had to pick a final winner for each of these categories.

It was half four when we finished and even then we hadn’t managed to do the other award running along side the Humanitarian awards  so we now have to do that judging over email.

The next thing is to go down to London for the actual event its self as well as helping to set up the event and run it on the night with ten other volunteers i will also be presenting an award too.

I had a really good day down at the head office and i cant wait for the awards night at the palace of Westminster in November. I am also the youngest judge on the panel as well as everybody else is doing their masters at university and i have only just finished my first year of an undergraduate degree.

The British Red Cross- 1st -5th August

So this week has been my last week as an intern with the Red Cross and i have had the most amazing time with them over the last three months. I have been given so many opportunities and i have learnt so much and met so many great people.

Last week i was given the opportunity to apply for two amazing opportunities.

The 1st;

The international skill-share conference at Stanstead, a three day conference in cluding a gala dinner in September, with over 50 charities from around the world attending, and I would be helping with registration, making sure everyone knows where they are going and being able to sit in some of the workshops and seminars as well.

The 2nd;

The Red Cross humanitarian awards judge, one of the judges in charge of shortlisting and picking the winners for each award at the Red Cross head office in London, and then attending the Awards ceremony itself in November at the palace of Westminster and setting up the venue and presenting an award as well.

And I found out yesterday that i have been given the opportunity to do both so in two week ill be going to the London head office to shortlist the nominees. I cant wait, I’m so excited to have been given this chance. I’m going to meet so many interesting people and might even network to get a work placement.

I have been given more hours as well so im not just doing one day a week anymore im doing four instead, which is also great.

The British Red Cross-25th-29th July

This week at the red cross I have been doing the marketing for the Giggle aid Concert in December.

I have been updating the social media pages with the line up that  has been confirmed, as well as putting the tickets on sale on different websites like Skiddle. I have also emailed and wrote to past attendees of the event to make them aware that the event will be held again this year.

I have also been doing market research this week as well to look into the new market the Red Cross are trying to target. The Red Cross fundraising team, try to get as many people as possible to sign up to be runners for the Red Cross in race events like the London marathon for example and are always trying to look for new people to sign up. Therefore their new target market is women whose children are now in school full time and have their days free again and most women like to start getting fit again and start doing 5k’s and such. So the Red Cross have called this new target market the 5K mums.

I have had to find out what companies they interact with on a daily basis, for example see what shows they watch and which companies advertise during those shows. The aim is for the Red Cross to be able to build partnerships with these particular companies and advertise through them.
